Tottenham suffers as Villa shows a way to win.

For the first half of this contest, Tottenham were superb. As if a recent injury blight of 8 players no less, had no bearing or relevancy at all. And Lo Celso’s deflected long range strike on 22 minutes, a fully deserved reward for their efforts.

Yet those injuries and a severe lack of depth and quality cost them a game they seemed poised to rise to. This match was always going to be difficult for Spurs. Villa a team seemingly going from strength to strength, worked their way into the game. Tottenham’s first half bluster proved irrelevant as Villa equalised from a fine header from Pau Torres on the stroke of half time.

From here Villa came into the second half revitalised, bar a spell in the 2nd half from Tottenham, Aston Villa controlled and managed the game superbly. And once they went ahead from Ollie Watkins superb controlled snatch of a goal, they never looked back.

What happened? A huge factor in this game is the plague of injuries Spurs have suffered in recent weeks. The Chelsea game a fortnight ago has seemingly derailed the train somewhat. With absentees ranging from the talismanic Maddison and the towering speedster at CB Van De Ven and the suspensions of Bissouma and Romero. Amongst a list of others, it’s safe to say spurs are depleted.
